It is testament to the popularity and strength of darts in recent years, that has encouraged the creation of a documentary for darts fans and sports fans alike. Produced by the team that brought us the fantastic ‘The Class of ‘92”, you know that this is going to be a great film.
Directed by Daniel Mendelle, and starring a wealth of darts greats. This documentary contains behinds the scenes footage, interviews and archive clips that detail the humble beginnings of the darts scene, through to the glamour and popularity of the sport in the 70’s and 80’s, all the way through to the 2015 World Championship. It highlights some of the most damaging times of the sport including the controversial split of the PDC and BDO that almost ruined the sport – but the resurgence and popularity of the sport in recent years has erased any prior struggles.
Not only do we observe the journeys of the current world best darts players including Gary Anderson, Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen, but we also get to see and hear from the players from the Golden Era – Eric Bristow, Bobby George and Bob Anderson to name but a few.
As we previously mentioned, the fact that a full-length film has been created only goes to show the success and popularity of darts. This is a great way for long-standing darts fans to relieve the highs and lows during the history of darts, and a great way for those new to darts to understand the growth and culture of the sport.
